API introduces the 3122V 2-channel microphone preamp
API has announced the 3122V 2-channel microphone preamplifier. Based on the same classic circuit design as the 3124V/3124MV and 512V/512c/312, the new 3122V is a dual-channel version that slots nicely between the company’s 4-channel models and their single-channel lunchbox modules. It also adds a fixed-frequency high pass filter. With circuitry based on the same design found in the 3124V, including 2520 op-amps, AP2516 input transformers and proprietary output transformers, the 3122V is a dual-channel microphone preamp in a single unit of rack space. Compared to the 3124V, API’s engineers have squeezed an additional 3 dB of gain out of the circuit (68 dB compared to 65 dB on the 3124V). You also get a variable output control, polarity switch, phantom power and -20 dB PAD per channel, as well as the 3:1 output transformer tap option. Another addition compared to the 3124V is a switchable fixed-frequency high pass filter at 50 Hz. And they’ve put the extra available front panel real estate to good use by giving the 3122V vintage-style, analog VU meters. In addition to the microphone inputs on the back, there are XLR-1/4” combo jacks on the front panel, which can be activated with a switch and accept microphone or Hi-Z instrument signals. With two channels of classic API amplification, the new 3122V is a great choice if you’re looking for a dual-channel solution, but don’t want to deal with 500-series modules.
