DigiTech and DOD acquired by Cor-Tek It looks like Cor-Tek has saved Digitech and DOD effects Cor-Tek builds its own instruments and over the weekend has announced it has acquired the DigiTech and DOD brand. You may know the company from its Cort brand of guitars, so this could be the perfect fit for the two effect pedal brands. Cor-Tek This could be a great move, as Cor-Tek has a huge infrastructure worldwide. The brand also produces guitars for other major players including Ibanez, Squier, Manson and PRS. This also means that the company has a great reputation and a pretty solid supply chain. “We’re pleased to inform you that we, Cor-Tek Corporation, maker of Cort guitars, have entered into a purchase agreement to acquire the DigiTech/DOD brand, including all DigiTech/DOD intellectual property and assets. “Since 1973, DigiTech/DOD guitar effect pedals have been iconic in the guitar industry, and we have a deep admiration for the heritage and legacy of the DigiTech/DOD products. We look forward to continuing the manufacturing and selling of the iconic products as well as investing in new features and products.” Troubled History Digitech and DOD were both previously owned by Harman and it never seemed to be a happy relationship and had a troubled past. The Digitech parent company, Harman, was then purchased by Samsung back in 2017 and the brand appeared to get a little lost. We reported that the two brands had been removed from the Harman site earlier this month. It wasn’t the first time that there had been controversy about the effect pedal brand, as previously Digitech had fired all its staff back in May 2018. This included Tom Cram and the entire Digitech/DOD design team. Thankfully, Tom went on to form Spiral FX. Digitech Whammy 5 Digitech Whammy 5 a firm favourite with fans A Bright Future? I personally think that the original Digitech and DOD team made some great effect pedal designs over the years. All of them were pretty unique, well thought out and will, no doubt, become classics over time. Now that Cor-Tek has taken over, we will hopefully see a return to form, which could make for a very interesting set of new pedal design releases in the coming years. Tom Cram has stated in the past that he had a five year road map for the brand, and many of these designs were never released. Could we see some resurrected, perhaps? His team was responsible for some pretty amazing model pedal designs, after all. The Cor-Tek Corporation has announced plans to create new products, so we could well see new products by the end of the year. |
