While I’m reviewing the IK Multimedia X-Time delay pedal, Line 6 has brought back a very popular pedal. Also a stereo delay and also in green. Line 6 has today announced the comeback of the DL4 stereo delay pedal in a new expanded MKII version.
Line 6 DL4 Mk II The Line 6 DL4 MKI premiered 22 years ago which is a strong product cycle for a stereo delay/looper pedal. All the beloved features are now back in a new MKII version. It comes with all the original DL4 delay algorithms (digital delay, tape echo, tube echo, rhythmic delay…) but also 15 new modern ones which originate from the Line 6 HX series. Including euclidean, glitch, and more. Endless delay fun for guitarists but also Synthesizer players. The original was also so popular because it had a looper on board in addition to the delay. You can find it also here but in extended version. The DL4 MkII has an onboard memory providing up to 240 seconds (4 minutes) of recording time. If that’s not enough, there is also an microSD card slot with which you can expand the looper time up to several hours. Pretty impressive upgrade for the looper section in my opinion. Line 6 DL4 Mk II The connections are located at the rear panel of the pedal. It features connectivity for an expressive pedal, a mic input with level control, mono/stereo jack inputs/outputs, a full-sized MIDI interface with in/out, and a USB-C port. Interestingly, there is no longer a battery compartment. Line 6 says it is smaller and lighter than the original, making it more appealing choice for modern musicians. More Presets, Familiar Interface Further, Line 6 added an extended preset system that allows you to store up to 6 presets on the pedal and a further 122 more accessible via MIDI. The interface is very familiar and takes big inspiration from the original, including the green color. It hosts four footswitches for controlling the pedal and six rotary knobs for selecting delay types and tweaking parameters. You get time/sudiv, repeats, tweak, tweez, and mix controls. A legacy button gives you access to the older delay models. At first glance a very exciting and solid update for a legendary delay pedal. The new algorithms are very tempting and maybe I need to check them out. Of course with synthesizers. And the new extended looper is definitely a very welcomed upgrade.
